Sage ganks from TV Tropes. "A favorite sci-fi movie is the one that starts with a small ship being attacked by a larger ship which directly leads to a rebellious young farmboy who lives with his stepparent and dreams of outer space only to meet an old wise man who knew his true father and asks him to join some crazy space mission and visits a bar full of aliens. Then has to go on a really big ship in order to save that partner he originally hated but ends up becoming good friends with by the end. And then they end up destroying the evil large ship that can destroy planets. Then medals are given out in the end in some great ceremony."
Rann snickers.
Moneypenny says, "Heheheh."
Ranma asks, "I realize that's the plot of SW, how is that a trope?"
Sage says, "It was listed under 'Shout Out' on Star Trek's page."
Ranma asks, "What's Shout Out?"
Moneypenny says, "I'd say it's not so much a shout out as Abrams being a pathetic excuse for a writer."
Ranma says, "So Star Trek used it as a plot also? That's lame."
Sage says, "It's a generalized version of the plot, really."
Ranma asks, "Of a Star Trek plot?"
Sage says, "Of the plot to the new Star Trek film, yeah."
Rann says, "It's just a sign that you can generalize pretty much anything into sounding just like something else, if ya ask me."
Sage also, Shout Out explanation.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShoutOutRanma boggles.
Sage apologizes in advance for the timesink link.
Ranma knows what a shout out is, I was trying to find out of they're really plagiarizing the plot that blatantly.
Sage says, "Heavens, no."
Rann says, "If you cut things down into generalities in just the right way, you can make Interview With the Vampire sound like Robocop."
Sage says, "That sounds like a challenge."
Ranma says, "I was gonna say that,'"
Sage posts that to Twitter.
Rann says, "A man who has been rendered into a tormented immortal with amazing powers laments the loss of his family."
Sage CACKLES.
Ranma says, "Wow."
Rann says, "He must fight back against his maker as he tries to come to terms with what he is and those who would harm him and those who have grown important to him."
Sage says, "I love you."

Sage smirks. "Okay...Dark Knight and Friday the 13th."
Rann says, "A man who has suffered an extremely traumatizing event as a child grows into a powerful individual who will now take his vengeance on the element that caused his trauma. In his mission he is opposed by quirky characters, and eventually comes to be hated by those who know of him."
